Early WBC news for Feb. 14, 2013

Today’s World Baseball Classic news is available after the jump (due to length):

In addition to every single game of the tournament, MLB Network will also be showing lots of spring training. Some of these games will include WBC teams:

March 5, 1 PM: Dominican Republic at Philadelphia Phillies (LIVE)

March 5, 9 PM: Mexico at Arizona Diamondbacks (LIVE)

March 6, 1 PM: Dominican Republic at NY Yankees (LIVE)

March 6, 4 PM: Italy at LA Angels (tape delay)

The Chinese National Team defeated the NC Dinos of the KBO yesterday, 8-5.

The Dutch National Team lost 4-3 in an exhibition against Chandler-Gilbert College yesterday in Arizona. The Dutch used 5 pitchers in the game, with Loek Van Mil getting the loss. Go to the link to see the story.

Omar Infante has officially been added to Team Venezuela.

Stephen Strasburg was apparently not invited to Team USA, probably because everybody figured that there was no way he was going to play anyway given the Nationals’ pitch-count paranoia around him.

The Cubans are on their way to Asia:

The Dominican Republic says that Johnny Cueto has been in communications with them and they have been told he’s been expecting to pitch for them.

Paco Rodriguez might not play for Spain in an attempt to try and break into the Dodgers’ bullpen.

The Twins and Ron Gardenhire are not particularly worried about Joe Mauer being in the Classic, especially since Joe Torre is manager, and he knows what he’s doing (presumably this is a reference to both Torre’s experience managing teams of All-Stars, as well as the fact he was a catcher).

More news later today if it comes. And, of course, don’t forget about Joe Connor’s WBC guide.
