Late WBC news for Feb. 18, 2013

If you missed the news from earlier in the day, go here.

For tonight’s news, go below the jump.

From Rangers Camp: As rumored, Jurickson Profar won’t be playing for Team Netherlands this time around, and although Adrian Beltre has an injury he is expected to be able to join the Dominican after the first round.

The final pitcher for Team USA will be announced by Wednesday, when rosters are more-or-less finalized.

Moises Sierra of the Blue Jays organization will be playing for Team Dominican in the WBC. So will Jose Valverde, according to the DR’s Twitter feed. Carlos Gomez will not be.

Luis Ayala has made up his mind about Mexico:

And on the Johan Santana front, what happened was exactly what everybody expected to happen:

Meanwhile, in Asia, Taipei beat Cuba in the first warm-up game, 6-5.

Russell Martin will see some time at shortstop during the WBC for Team Canada.

More WBC stuff tomorrow, of course, including an update of the Continuum Rankings.
