Thanks Youtube! While looking up “Greg Maddux“, I found video of him as a 19-year-old in 1985 with the Peoria Chiefs. THREE VIDEOS OF IT, to be exact.

Mike Piazza on slumps… and the one man he thought never got any:
“One thing anyone can go through is a slump. Unless you’re Greg Maddux, it’s going to happen to everybody.”
The 90s. Clinton was president, Super Nintendo was awesome, MTV still showed music videos, people were all fascinated by this new “internet” and, of course, there were a ton of home runs.
Nike knew this, and made a commercial to honor this age of homers. Of course, we now know that the long ball may not have been because of the shoes, but because of something else. But anyway, from the 90s, here’s the classic Nike commercial: “Chicks Dig the Long Ball”.
As I work on my recollections and photos from Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Orioles and Yankees, perhaps now is a good time to talk about perhaps the signature play of Game 2: Ichiro’s dancing avoidance of Matt Wieters to score the first run of the game.
Ichiro has had many signature moments, but that play may be one of his best, it was something that nobody had ever seen before.
Except, well, this is baseball, so something like that had happened before. But who could have pulled off such a acrobatic feat of contortionist baserunning? Rickey Henderson? Pete Rose? A young Ken Griffey?
