Early WBC News for Feb. 24, 2013

For last night’s news, go here. For news from the overnight, go below the jump:

Results from warm-up games in Asia:

Japan 10, Australia 3 as the Japanese jumped upon the Australian relievers once again. Australia is headed back to Taiwan, while Japan will, well, remain in Japan. Luke Hughes had a homer for the Aussies, while Kazuo Matsui went 2-5 with 4 RBIs in the game.

The Netherlands shut out Cuba, 5-0, with Diegomar Markwell pitching got the win and Wladimir Balentien had a home run.

Dae-Ho Lee had two homers as Korea beat the NC Dinos 4-1.

News in general:

Russell Martin will not be playing in the WBC after all- he was going to be a shortstop if he played.

Most of the Royals’ WBC players will be playing today. Glen Perkins of the Twins is also going to be on the mound today (although not against the Royals- I should probably make that more clear).

A reminder to follow me on Twitter and to follow my WBC twitter-list of players, reporters, coaches and other commentators.
