Stuff I Found In Storage: Atlanta Braves 1993 Spring Training Program

So, I found this in my family storage. It probably was gotten by my grandfather:

93BravesSTcoverYou see that? Well, yes, it’s an image of Pittsburgh’s hopes and dreams being extinguished, but it also is the cover of the Spring Training program for the Atlanta Braves in 1993, when they were in West Palm Beach.

Let’s go inside, shall we (after the jump):

One of the earliest things you come across in the program is this little thing on Bobby Cox. It’s sort of amazing to think that this was still pretty early in his second stint with the Braves, and just how long and successful that stint ended up being, leading to his being named to the HoF yesterday:

93BravesSTcoxThere also is this page of the Front Office at the time. Behold Ted Turner, younger versions of Stan Kasten and John Schuerholtz and a thrilling image of Hank Aaron speaking on a telephone:

93BravesSTfrontofficeOh, but it really gets good during the coaches page:

93BravesST93CoachesOh, sure, it’s neat to read about younger Leo Mazzone and Ned Yost, but let’s look at what’s really important about this: Jim Beauchamp.

Moving on, we get to players. There’s Francisco Cabrera, who’s one claim to fame is heavily featured in his profile:

The ads. For example, did you know how freaking rich you could get if you invested in baseball cards? It’s true, according to this ad!

Screen Shot 2013-12-10 at 6.21.48 PMAnd, finally, here is the scorecard from that day, which featured the Expos and Braves (who featured Chipper Jones playing shortstop)… what day was it? I’m not sure, but here’s how it looked:

93BravesST93expos93BravesST93barvesDo you know what day this game took place? Let me know.

And until next time, thanks for coming to Baseball Continuum.

  1. Stumbled upon this quite by accident. The Braves are my favorite team, and 1993 was one of my favorite seasons of Braves baseball, so this was some nice nostalgia. Wish I could help you out with the boxscore. Keep up the good work!
