So, I found this in my family storage. It probably was gotten by my grandfather:
You see that? Well, yes, it’s an image of Pittsburgh’s hopes and dreams being extinguished, but it also is the cover of the Spring Training program for the Atlanta Braves in 1993, when they were in West Palm Beach.
Let’s go inside, shall we (after the jump):
One of the earliest things you come across in the program is this little thing on Bobby Cox. It’s sort of amazing to think that this was still pretty early in his second stint with the Braves, and just how long and successful that stint ended up being, leading to his being named to the HoF yesterday:
Moving on, we get to players. There’s Francisco Cabrera, who’s one claim to fame is heavily featured in his profile:
We also get Tom Glavine:
…and Greg Maddux…
…and John Smoltz:
….and finally Deion Sanders:
The ads. For example, did you know how freaking rich you could get if you invested in baseball cards? It’s true, according to this ad!
Or, hey, did you know that Jai Alai is faster than a Nolan Ryan fastball? This ad does!
And, finally, here is the scorecard from that day, which featured the Expos and Braves (who featured Chipper Jones playing shortstop)… what day was it? I’m not sure, but here’s how it looked:
And until next time, thanks for coming to Baseball Continuum.
