The Second Episode of 2012’s “The Franchise” saw Ozzie Guillen say the F-Word about 18 times, and other observations

The second episode of this season of The Franchise wasn’t as long or as good as the first, but it still entertained while providing a unique look at the Miami Marlins, focusing primarily on Giancarlo Stanton’s surgery, Logan Morrison’s trip back to his hometown of Kansas City, and the unexpected rise of Justin Ruggiano, but still getting in some good Ozzie Guillen sounds before the end, as he chewed out the team immediately following the All-Star Break. Thoughts and the “Ozzie Guillen ‘Carlin Words’ Counter” after the jump:

  • Logan Morrison had a lot more screen time this week, and it’s even more obvious that he’s going to be MLB Productions and Showtime’s replacement for Brian Wilson. However, while Wilson is rather deadpan about how eccentric he is, Logan Morrison knows it. I kind of prefer Wilson’s approach as far as humor goes, but Morrison certainly can make a person chuckle, such as when he is walking around the All-Star Game press conferences looking for George Brett. Especially the part where he says “hi” to Derek Jeter (who says something quick and then keeps walking right by him) and then he turns to his girlfriend and just says: “He has no idea who I am.”
  • Seeing Giancarlo Stanton going into surgery was depressing, especially when you consider it was happening during the All-Star break, where he was expected to be a major star at the Home Run Derby.
  • Justin Ruggiano will have the role of Ryan Vogelsong this year: The longtime minor-leaguer who is finally having a big break.
  • Biggest disappointment: No mention of Ozzie Guillen’s feud with Bryce Harper. Although, come to think of it, I think this episode didn’t include the whole Nationals series, so perhaps it will be featured next week.
  • Fun factoid I didn’t know before: George Brett got number 5 after his rookie season because the equipment manager thought it’d be good if he had Brooks Robinson’s number. At least, that’s what Brett told Morrison.

And now, let us take a look at the great wit and wisdom of Ozzie Guillen, one of the great orators of the 21st century. And, more specifically, how many times he used one of the words that the great George Carlin said you couldn’t use on normal television. Yes, it’s time for the “Ozzie Guillen ‘Carlin Words’ Counter”:

F-bombs: About 18
S-words: 2
Other “Carlin Words”: 0

Total Carlin Words in Episode 2: Approx. 20 (about one Carlin Word is said by Ozzie Guillen every 90 seconds, lower than the once-every-75-seconds rate from Episode 1)

Total Carlin Words in The Franchise 2012 overall: Approx. 68 (about one Carlin Word every 79.41 seconds)
