It’s time again for the Miami Marlins’ edition of The Franchise. Last time, I noted that there was no reference to Ozzie Guillen’s feud with Bryce Harper over the amount of pin-tar on his bat. Well, that basically opens up this episode. After that, though, it becomes focused on two things: the beginning of the latest fire sale as the Marlins continue to fall out of it, and families. More after the jump, including the latest installment of the “Ozzie Guillen ‘Carlin Words’ Counter”:
- It becomes clear early on that, even if you haven’t been paying attention to the news, the Marlins are going to make moves. It’s set up with talk about how critical their road trip is going to be, and how if they continue to struggle, moves are going to have to be made.
- It’s interesting to see how the players deal with all of the trade rumors. Essentially, they take it with a lot of humor. “I hear I’m going to Boston with Hanley for Crawford,” says one, holding back laughter.
- The funniest moment of the episode comes when Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez are traded to Detroit. When told he’s going back to Detroit (he’s played there before), Infante says “Thank you.” Ozzie Guillen, of course, responds in his own special style: “Thank you!? @#$% you!” before giving him a goodbye hug.
- The other main emphasis is on family, especially the Guillens. Oney Guillen shows up (and himself throws in two “Carlin words”), and a lot of emphasis is placed on Ozzie’s wife, Ibis. Ibis shows that she can dish out light-hearted abuse at Ozzie just as much as he can.
- Next week: Hanley Ramirez being traded.
And now, the “Ozzie Guillen ‘Carlin Words’ Counter”, which was surprisingly low this week:
F-Bombs: 3
S-Words: 4
Other: 0
Total number of “Carlin Words” in Episode 3: 7
Total number so far: 75 (about one swear word by Ozzie Guillen every 96 seconds)
