First off, let me show you the “Carlin Word” count for Wednesday’s episode of The Franchise for Ozzie Guillen:
(this space intentionally left blank)
…..
There weren’t any. The total number of times he’s used a swear word on The Franchise remains at 105. On average, Ozzie Guillen swears about once every two minutes.
So, there you go, people-only-here-to-read-about-Ozzie-Guillen-language. Now, everyone else, go after the jump to read my observations
- You keep getting the feeling that Showtime and MLB Productions are more and more regretting picking the Marlins. Not because they aren’t interesting- they are interesting- but because they are so clearly out of it. Maybe they should try to get the Yankees next season (fat chance), or another team that is basically guaranteed to be in it.
- The Logan Morrison feature this week is truly one of those that punch you in the gut: his father was diagnosed with a non-smoking lung cancer when Logan was in the minors, and hoped to survive long enough to see his son play in the majors. He did, but he was too sick to fly to Logan’s first game, which was happening in New York. So he took a 10-hour train ride to see his son play. He then died during the off-season.
- Jose Reyes got a tattoo the day before R.A. Dickey ended his hit streak. Maybe the needle went too deep. Or, more likely, maybe Reyes just had no idea how to hit a well-thrown knuckler. Few do.
- Eritrea was mentioned for the first time ever in relation to baseball, as catcher John Buck talked about how his cabbie in Washington DC, who was from Eritrea, had never been to a baseball game. So he left tickets for the cabbie, who went to a game. While he didn’t quite get the rules and he still prefers soccer, he said he enjoyed it.
- The above scene also had the great quote that John Buck could never play soccer, as it would require him to run around a lot, which isn’t something catchers do much of.
- There are increasingly fewer scenes of the front office in The Franchise. They didn’t show up at all in this episode, it seemed.
So, wait until next week for another episode of The Franchise.
