Miss this morning’s WBC news? Go here. For today’s WBC news, go below the jump.
First off, bad news on the injury front for Puerto Rico and Venezuela (and the Giants);
Torres out a week (and out of WBC) with oblique strain. Mijares likely out of WBC because of elbow soreness. #SFGiants

Now, on to more news: For reasons beyond my comprehension, the WBC will have a car running on NASCAR’s Mexican Circuit. I didn’t even know NASCAR had a Mexican circuit…
Okay, so it was a slow news day other than the injuries. Here are how some WBC participants did during the day today:
Jimmy Rollins (PHI/USA): 0-3, SO
Joe Mauer (MIN/USA): 2-2, RBI, BB
Justin Morneau (MIN/CAN): 2-3, 2B, 3 RBI
Miguel Cabrera (DET/VZ): 2-4, 2B, RBI
Giancarlo Stanton (MIA/USA): 3-3, 2B, 3B, BB (HR short of cycle)
Yadier Molina (STL/PR): 1-3, RBI
Jose Reyes (TOR/DR): 1-3
Joey Votto (CIN/CAN): 0-2, BB, SO
Ryan Braun (MIL/USA): 0-3, SO
Derek Holland (TEX/USA): 4 IP, 3 H, 2 K
Alex Liddi (SEA/ITA): 1-3, RBI
Pablo Sandoval (SF/VZ): 1-2, BB
Tomorrow: The WBC begins….
What’s even worse for PR is that Carlos Beltran was hit by a ball today and said he was in pain and replied “who knows” when they asked him if what happened today could affect his participation in the WBC. That could be a deadly blow for PR because now they wouldn’t even have Torres to take his place in the OF.
BTW, I still think people are looking past that Venezuelan pen when making their predictions. Right now the only reliable MLB reliever they have is Ronald Belisario, after him they have K-rod(who is a very hittable pitcher nowadays)and after that,it is just a bunch of journeymen and minor leaguers…
The Nascar news has to be some of the most bizarre to ever be connected with an international baseball tournament. Hoorah…exposure?
