Early WBC News for March 1, 2013

Yomiuri Giants 8, Team China 1 last night. Cuba, meanwhile, beat the Softbank Hawks 10-8 (don’t have a link to that one).

The starters for tonight’s WBC opener between Taipei and Australia are both Major League veterans: Chien-Ming Wang and Chris Oxspring. Meanwhile, Japan will have Masahiro Tanaka against Brazil, who run out Rafael Fernandes in the Pool A opener.

Canada’s starting rotation has now been set: Shawn Hill will face Italy, Chris Leroux will face Mexico, and Jameson Taillon will face Team USA. EDITED IN LATER: Jon Paul Morosi has Scott Mathieson in the starting rotation instead of Tallion.

Spain has opened training camp in Florida.
