Weather permitting, the annual baseball game between the Democrats and Republicans of Congress is going on right now. It’s taken very seriously, to the point where freshman congressmen who would otherwise not be noted in the halls of Washington suddenly become very popular amongst their fellows if they happened to have played college ball. At least, that’s what this article seems to say.

Who Wright and Cano should pick for the HR Derby…
David Wright and Robinson Cano will be the captains for the HR derby, each picking three from their league to participate in this year’s Derby. In theory, they can choose whoever they want, although I wouldn’t be surprised if MLB makes some heavy suggestions and would block if Robinson Cano picked a pitcher to participate, or something.
But, anyway, who should Cano and Wright pick?
I have some ideas after the jump:

Just in time for Man of Steel, our friend Michael Clair over at Old Time Family Baseball takes a look at a 1982 story in which Clark Kent has to manage a little league team. Go there.
MVP of Yesterday (June 12, 2013): Brandon Moss
Brandon Moss is the MVP of Yesterday, as his two HRs helped pace the Athletics over the Yankees.
As always, the MVP standings are after the jump:
The North Korean Hockey Team
Aside
Non-baseball-related thing I read that I found interesting: An article over at Deadspin on North Korea’s national ice hockey team. Yeah, they have one.
Aside: 2014 will open in Australia
Aside
As part of MLB’s efforts to grow the game and spread international peace and understanding, the 2014 season will start in Australia. It will, of course, feature those epitomes of diplomacy, the Diamondbacks and Dodgers.
MVP of Yesterday (June 11, 2013): Aaron Harang
Aaron Harang had a complete game 2-hitter with 10 Ks. Easy pick for MVP of Yesterday.
Standings, as always, under the jump:
MVP of Yesterday (June 10, 2013): Adam Dunn
Adam Dunn is the MVP of Yesterday, having gone 4-4 with a walk in yesterday’s game against Toronto, going deep twice and racking up 5 RBIs in the win.
MVP Standings, as always, under the jump:
MVP of Yesterday (June 9, 2013): Dan Uggla
The MVP of yesterday is Dan Uggla, who only had two hits in his two official at-bats (he walked the other times)… but those two hits were HR.
More posting will resume tomorrow, as my computer is now completely fixed. Until then, the MVP standings are below the jump, as always:
MVP of Yesterday (June 8, 2013): Kevin Slowey
Sorry for the sparse updates this weekend- I’ve been having some computer problems. Anyway, the MVP of Yesterday is Kevin Slowey, who went 7 innings in relief and got the win in the 20-inning marathon victory of the Marlins over the Mets yesterday. He gave up 8 hits and struck out 8, but was able to hold the Mets scoreless, allowing the Marlins to eventually win it.
MVP standings, as always, under the jump:
