C.J. Wilson went 8.1 IP, with 8 Ks and giving up on 3 hits in the Angels 2-0 win yesterday… good enough for MVP of Yesterday.

After the All-Star Break, the MVP of Yesterday feature is BACK! And the MVP of Yesterday is Astros rookie Brandon Barnes, he went 5-for-5 with a cycle (he got two singles) and drove in two runs. It wasn’t enough to give the Astros the win, but it was enough for him to be the MVP of Yesterday.
Standings, as always, after the jump:
Yadier Molina, a good candidate for NL MVP right now period, is also the MVP of Yesterday, with his four hits, HR and four RBIs. And thus ends the first half….
Standings… well, you know:
Tim Lincecum was the losing pitcher of Homer Bailey‘s no-hitter, but, for the first time since 1906, he was the one to author the next no-no, going the distance with 148 pitches and with 14 strikeouts. Is there any doubt he’s the MVP of Yesterday?
(Standings after jump)
Raul Ibanez continues to defy father time, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 HRs yesterday, which is good enough for me to name him MVP.
As always, standings after the jump:
Freddie Freeman shocked the world by beating out Yasiel Puig in the NL Final Vote, but then proved that perhaps it wasn’t a shock at all, going 3-4 with 4 RBIs and some nice defensive plays in Atlanta’s 6-5 win over the Reds. And that means that Freeman is the MVP of Yesterday!
Standings, as always, after the jump:
Robinson Cano has basically had to strap the Yankees onto his shoulders at times over the past months, and last night he proved again why he is one of the finest players in the American League, going 3-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs against the Royals.
Standings, as always, after the jump:
Alex Rios may have had one of the best nights of the season last night. Heck, he might have had one of the best nights of all time!
Standings, as always, after the jump:
Somebody can buy Buster Posey a t-shirt that says “I went 5-8 with a HR in a 15-inning loss and all I got was MVP of Yesterday and this T-shirt” now, because that is the case for yesterday.
Amazingly, this is the first time he’s won.
You know the drill: standings under the jump.
Yesterday’s MVP race came down to being between Michael Brantley (3-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI) and Miguel Cabrera (4-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB), who happened to be playing each other. However, Brantley was instrumental in the Indians’ eventual victory, so I am naming him the MVP of Yesterday.
