The MVP of Yesterday was Justin Ruggiano of the Marlins, who went 2-4 with a HR, a walk and 3 RBIs in the Fish’s 6-3 win over the Braves.
Standings, as always, under the jump:

Today, July 4th, is the famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. And, in homage to that and as a semi-sequel to the article about Chris Sale‘s diet, here’s a look at two of the other great baseball tales involving appetite… after the jump, of course:
Manny Ramirez has returned to American shores.
To be more specific, he has signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers.
That is all.
I can see both sides of the arguments about Yasiel Puig being an all-star or not. However, I think that it’ll ultimately be a moot point: Yasiel Puig will be at the All-Star Game, barring injury or he himself refusing an invite.
Oh, he probably won’t be amongst the initial people named this coming weekend. Instead, one of the backup ways for him to get in will come into play:
Got all of that?
Williams Perez of the Rome Braves had the night of a lifetime last night, holding off the great Alex Rodriguez, getting him to ground into a double play and then later striking him out!
Just kidding, it’s Homer Bailey, who threw his second no-hitter and the first since… he did it last year on September 28. I mean, if you throw a no-hitter, you basically HAVE to be the MVP of Yesterday.
Standings, as always, after the jump:
Yahoo!’s Jeff Passan has the story of the first Americans to meet Yasiel Puig and get his autograph… the twist being that they were Coast Guard sailors who had foiled a defection attempt.
Read it. It’s good.
Robinson Cano went 3-for-4 with a walk and had two home runs and three RBIs in the Yankee win yesterday, making him the MVP of Yesterday.
As always, standings after the jump:
It was bound to happen: somebody thinks Chris Davis may be on steroids. They even asked him! His answer?

Justin Masterson threw a complete-game shutout of the White Sox, striking out eight. That’s a pretty good way to become the MVP of Yesterday.
Honorable Mentions: David Lough, Manny Machado, Yasiel Puig, Chris Sale (in a loss) and Mat Latos (also in a loss).
Standings, as always, after the jump:
With apologies to Adam Wainwright and Justin Turner, the 5-RBI and 2 HR performance for Chris Davis earns him the MVP of Yesterday. With 30 homers before the break, both Brady Andersen’s 50 HR record for the Orioles and perhaps even Roger Maris‘ AL-record 61 could, theoretically, be under threat.
