Be sure to check out the Old Time Family Baseball blogathon

An unrelated note today on one of our friends on the baseball blogosphere: Old Time Family Baseball. It’s a blog much like this one, with no real theme but baseball and great content that is at least vaguely related to it. Take this post, for example. That brought me a good chuckle.

Anyway, this weekend, OTFB will be doing something special. Tomorrow, Saturday the 19th, OTFB writer Michael Clair will be writing a post every half hour for 24 hours (!!), and then, the day after that (Sunday the 20th), others from across the baseball-related internet will take over, having contributed pieces to OTFB for that day. Among those who have contributed a piece? Yours truly.

The reason for this blogathon is to raise money for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, as it’s known outside of North America), the humanitarian organization that provides medical care in developing nations and in war zones. Last year, they raised over $2,000 in donations, and this year they are aiming for even more, so if you are interested in the blogathon, make sure to head over to OTFB.

Blog dealings: WordAds

You might notice that there are now some more advertisements on the Continuum. The reason for this is because this site is now under WordPress’ WordAds program, which allows people who use WordPress to make a little money from their sites. I intend, barring the Continuum becoming Deadspin-level popular, to put a good portion of any profit from the site back into it, such as paying for hosting and domains. For now, at least, the advertisements will be found at the end of articles (this had happened occasionally before joining the WordAds program, but that was just by WordPress, and I received no monetary benefit from those), but in the future they might be elsewhere. I will try, however, to keep them as unobtrusive as possible.

So, if you like the Continuum and one of the ads interests you, feel free to click on it, or watch it if it is a video.

Similarly, if you come across an advertisement that offends you, please let me know, and I will look into it.

Thanks!

Now offcially www.baseballcontinuum.com!

For months, baseballcontinuum.com simply rerouted to baseballcontinuum.wordpress.com, but no more! Starting last night, baseballcontinuum.com stands for and is mapped to the whole site, this will allow for easier sharing of links and potentially other future developments and features.

Previous favorites and bookmarks should still work, but let me know if they don’t.

With that said, carry on, readers.

Coming Up in the final days of 2012

In the final days of 2012 at the Baseball Continuum:

  • New projections for Team USA and Team Dominican Republic.
  • A look at the “Living Baseball Card” project.
  • Images from 2012.
  • And maybe the awaited return of “Bizarre Baseball Culture”.

Stay tuned!

Blog Note: Now receiving from Baseball-Reference Newsfeeds

This is just a quick note: starting today the Continuum will be featured in Baseball-Reference.com’s “player news” sections, so as you are browsing B-Ref you might come across a link to this site. These links will be to articles where the player’s name was linked to their B-Ref page.

This probably won’t affect any of you whatsoever, but I thought it a good idea to let you all know.

Links of the undetermined amount of time: Grantland and Sports On Earth

When I am asked- and I am never asked- where to find the best sportswriting on the internet, I point (well, I would point if I was ever asked) to one of two websites.
The first, and the older of the two, is Grantland. Part of the ESPN empire and run by “Boston Sports Guy” Bill Simmons, it sports a large roster of writers writing about not only sports, but also popular culture. While it can sometimes be hit and miss, and Simmons’ himself is decidedly a mixed bag, it is still a daily destination, especially during big-time sports events.

The second, newer but more focused on sports, is Sports on Earth, a joint-venture between USA Today and Major League Baseball Advanced Media that is like Grantland, only without the pop culture. One of the biggest drawing cards for SoE is the fact that it features Joe Posnanski, one of the best sports columnists on the internet, period.

Check them out.

Coming up this week on the Baseball Continuum:

Coming this week:

SUNDAY: A random video of the undetermined amount of time.

MONDAY: A review of Baseball Is Just Baseball: The Understated Ichiro by David Shields.

TUESDAY: Off-topic Tuesday and a WBC pool preview

WEDNESDAY: A WBC Qualifying pool preview

THURSDAY-SATURDAY: TBD

Now up: The Glossary

I sometimes use a lot of acronyms and words that some may be confused by. Therefore, I have created a glossary that can be found at the top of the page.

Let me know if there is anything you want to be defined.

Coming this offseason on the Baseball Continuum

So, baseball’s season may be over, but the Baseball Continuum never is quiet. Here are some things to look forward too over the next few months:

  • World Baseball Classic projections and coverage
  • The return of “Bizarre Baseball Culture”, where I view some of baseball’s more unusual appearances in Popular Culture.
  • An expansion of my Baseball Continuum theory, including a map of the Baseball Continuum
  • More “Great Predictions in History”
  • The occasional foray into non-Baseball stuff
  • And more!

Blog Dealings: Stats on this Site that probably only interest me

WordPress has a feature where you can see from what countries people are looking at your blog from, as well as what they are searching for. The results for me are quite varied and in some cases surprising. So if you are bored, go after the jump to see some of the things I have gleaned from the data:
